How good were we at that Avenues gig I wish I could have stayed longer. Hope to make Carnival day depending on time and duration. My experiment with the low G tuning has only been a partial success. The two main flaws being a. The guitar D string is metal wound and rattles a bit and b. I experimented on a ukulele I don't like playing so it was doomed from the start but thanks a lot Ian for your contribution. I'll think up a plan B. ps I rather like orange too.

The Little Weighton Carnival thing is off.
The organisers sent me a message via Facebook on Monday and as I didn't respond by Wednesday they cancelled us and asked the Tenfoot Ukes instead.
I'm a little annoyed by this. As a group of 12 - 15 players it's impossible to get a group decision that fast.

Hope you had a good holiday, you've definitely had good weather. We've were a bit slow to respond to your original post asking who was interested so perhaps we can put this down to experience and be quicker off the mark next time to give you a chance to confirm early with organisers.

The organisers been messaging me through facebook and she says she sent loads of messages, but now she can't see them on her timeline. She also claims to have been talking to "steve" - who's in the Tenfoot Ukes, so somewhere she's been talking to them when she thought she was talking to me.
The issue here is that I am the single point of failure.
The group needs to be able to - take it's own music to gigs - provide it's own transport - take a chair - take a music stand - communicate through more than one person
We were on our way to doing that.
In the Tenfoot ukes, I was the sole contact for all gigs, I made up the songbooks, transported people, carried music stands and held the PA (for ~60% of the time). I realised this was a mistake and changed this in the "New improved" Hull Ukulele Group.
We were well on our way to autonomy and this is just the first hiccup.
I need to make a few people admins on the Facebook page and then rely on them to communicate.

Hi john I think we as a group need to take responsibility for the loss of this gig. We did not post on the forum who would be going nor have we told you verbally at practice nights. As the government says lessons must be learnt ha ha happy strumming

It is a shame that it got cancelled as I was looking forward to it. As Ian said things need to be learned from this. I guess a good step forward is to work out how many regular members we have on a Monday and how many are interested in doing live gigs. For those reading this that didn't go to the gardens I'd like to say that it was great fun and you shouldn't be put off by an audience. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. Also could I recommend that for future gigs we have an outdoor practice in a park possibly the week before?

Looks like the beginnings of a plan Dave. It may also be an idea to find out how many members actually use the forum to find out what is happening. Does everybody who said they were going to the gig know it's off ??
